Mods and rework

Define reworks once per revision, mark them applied per unit, and see exactly when each mod was done and which boards have it.

A mod is any change made to already-built units: a bodge wire, a component swap, a cut trace or an engineering change order (ECO). Tracking mods properly is what lets you answer “which boards have the fix?” and “when was this board reworked?”.

Defining a mod

  1. Open Designs and choose the design.
  2. On the revision the mod applies to, click + Mod.
  3. Give it a short name (Bodge R12 to 10k) and optional instructions: what to change, why, and how to check it.

Mods belong to a revision because fixes are specific to a layout. A rev A bodge won’t appear on rev B boards.

Applying a mod

Open a prototype of that revision and click Mark applied next to the mod. Proto Tracker records:

  • the date and time, and
  • who applied it.

Both are shown on the prototype page (“Applied 1 Jul 2026, 13:08 by Priya Raman”) and in its history. If a mod was marked by mistake, click Remove. The removal is recorded too.

Which boards have a mod?

On the design page, each mod shows on N units. Click it to open the change history filtered to that mod: every unit it was applied to or removed from, with dates and names.

In the prototype list, the Mods column shows how many mods each unit has.

Moving a prototype to a new revision

Sometimes a board is reworked so much that it effectively becomes the next revision. To move it:

  1. Remove the old revision’s mods from the prototype.
  2. Click Edit and choose the new revision.

Proto Tracker won’t let you move a prototype while old-revision mods are still applied, so a board’s mod list always matches its revision.

Deleting a mod

If a mod is applied to any prototypes, Proto Tracker asks you to confirm. Deleting it removes it from those prototypes; the history of it being applied is kept.
